Honda Companies in North America Support STEAM Education for Tomorrow's Innovators

The Honda companies in North America place STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) education and career readiness as their top priorities to inspire the next generation’s creativity and innovative approach to solve tomorrow's real-world challenges.

Every year, Honda Canada Foundation (HCF) provides funding to hold FIRST Robotics Competitions nationwide and assist 30 high school teams in their robot creation for these competitions. HCF also supports the STEAM programs of Toronto Metropolitan, Queen's and York Universities, as well as the entrepreneurship and leadership programs of Inspire and Shad Canada that provide scholarships for women and indigenous people pursuing degrees in robotics and science, award outstanding students in the engineering field and enabling high schoolers to attend lectures, labs and meetings with local industry leaders in STEAM.

In the U.S.A., Honda launched the Honda Engineering Roadshow in partnership with Center of Science and Industry (COSI) to expose youth to STEAM education and future career opportunities, and has distributed over 15,000 learning kits to marginalized communities near Honda’s operational bases since late 2022. Honda also co-sponsors the nationwide Creators Wanted tour together with the National Association of Manufacturers and the Manufacturing Institute, attracting over than 15,000 students since 2021, of which 84% have reported improved views of manufacturing careers.

Honda in the U.S.A. Advances its Long-term Commitment to HBCUs

In the United States, Honda's corporate social responsibility (CSR) vision is extended to its longstanding commitment to support Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). For more than three decades, Honda has positively impacted the lives of nearly 300,000 HBCU students and awarded over USD 14 million in grants supporting HBCU education programs and facility improvements.They range from the decades-long support to Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC), Honda Battle of the Bands (HBOB) that feature the nationally renowned HBCU marching bands to numerous HBCU grant programs including the STEAM and scholarship programs, Alabama A&M University's STEM Star Scholars Initiative, the Alabama State University’s Traffic Safety Program, the FASTRAC Program with Tuskegee University, and the JELMA Summer Youth Arts Institute at Morgan State University.

This year, Honda associates have also been actively engaged in mentoring, guest lectures, hands-on workshops and discussions, including Honda's Ohio manufacturing and R&D operations that hosted 28 HBCU students for the company’s first-ever immersion event with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF).

The Honda companies in North America support Honda's vision and dedication to reducing the environmental footprint to lead toward the goal of realizing carbon neutrality by 2050. Based on the common belief that boosting the young people’s awareness and understanding of the environment is crucial to accelerate change, they are partnering with organizations that bring environmental education to youth across the region to inspire the next generation of environmental leaders through various educational programs that address sustainability, renewable energy, energy efficiency, ecosystem resilience, climate change and more.

The longstanding partnership between The Nature Conservancy and Honda companies in the United States including Honda USA Foundation has led to supporting projects to help ensure a sustainable future across the country by promoting youth engagement activities through environmental education and conservation initiatives offered at sites close to Honda’s operational bases in 10 states.

Honda Canada Foundation's support of Earth Rangers National School Assembly Program and Be the Change Earth Alliance Society brings environmental education programming to teachers and students directly and through partnerships with local schools. Other initiatives to help the young people develop their leadership skills include FortWhyte Alive's Hands-on Science Days and The Gaia Project, which are geared to foster their connections with the environment while encouraging their hands-on learning and real-life application of eco-friendly practices.

The Honda companies in North America are also supporting programs aimed at addressing the challenges of youth in marginalized communities derived from cultural diversity, economic inequality, geographic limitations, resource availability and skill gaps by providing virtual options to accommodate different learning styles and increase the accessibility to their growth opportunities.

Honda Companies in North America Help Advance Traffic Safety in our Communities

Under Honda's vision of realizing a collision-free society by 2050, the Honda companies in North America have united as One Team Honda to support various organizations that advance traffic safety of all generations across the region through educational programs on such as the proper use of child seats, safety measures for pedestrians, use of helmet, bike safety and danger of distracted driving.

To address the disproportionately high number of crash-related teen deaths in North America, U.S. Honda group partnered with Discovery Education to launch a new national educational program to teach secure driving skills, good judgment and sense of responsibility to the drivers under 25, which was followed in 2023 by the first-ever collaborative roundtable which offered the opportunity for Honda associates and traffic safety partners to learn from each other, share ideas, and take action to raise the safety awareness among young drivers.

Honda Canada Foundation's support for Project Courage that distributed coupons to purchase new, safe car and booster seats to parents and guardians in marginalized communities in collaboration with local hospitals and social service programs, and the Honda USA Foundation's support for The Priority Center's Basic Needs program and Dayton Children's Hospital's Transportation Safety Initiative to help provide at-risk families essential safety items including car seats, bicycle helmets and strollers are all closely in line with the collective efforts to contribute to Honda's global Safety for Everyone approach.

Honda Group in North America Assisted Wildfire Victims

In FY2024, there were 6,500 wildfires in Canada, burning more than 45 million acres, nearly nine times the average area burned each year. In the summer of the same year, a wildfire on the Island of Maui, Hawaii in the U.S. claimed the lives of nearly 100 people and damaged more than 2,000 homes and other structures.

The Honda Group in the U.S. and the Honda Canada Foundation are longtime partners of the Red Cross and donors to the Disaster Response Alliance of the Canadian Red Cross. These donations allow for pre-arrangement of supplies and ensures a rapid response system and response teams in the event of a disaster. Through this initiative, the Honda Canada Foundation assisted wildfire victims across Canada.

The Honda Group in the U.S. donated USD 500,000 to the American Red Cross for humanitarian assistance in the areas affected by the wildfire in Maui. In addition, together with its associates, the Group implemented a one-on-one matching gift program to organizations that helped many people affected by the wildfires last year.
