HRE-UK Participates in Industry Day Hosted by WMG
The “Industry Day” organized by Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), in which HRE-UK participates, is a careers fair with a twist. Instead of the typical format of each participating company handing out public relations materials, etc. at their booths, the event is designed to give students an opportunity to broaden their options for consideration and to think carefully about which of those options they should choose by providing a venue for representatives from each company's recruiting department (referred to as “industry partners” hereafter) to explain directly to students what they do and how they apply their expertise and technology in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to their respective business operations.
The event is divided into two parts, starting from “Lightning Talk,” in which each industry partner gives a three-minute overview of their company to the students using one PowerPoint slide with the company name and presenter's name displayed on it, and followed by the "Main Session" in which each company has up to 20 minutes to provide students a more detailed description of their business and the areas of research and development they are particularly focused on, either verbally or with an interactive demonstration.
The event has generated a high level of interest, with 192 students from 11 schools registered as participants this year.
HBG-DE Employees Volunteer for Two Days of Litter Pickup in Frankfurt's Eastpark
Honda Motor Europe Iberia Branch started a two-week safety training program in 1992, which has been upscaled in 2009 to an all-year program offered at a motorcycle traffic education center named Honda Institute of Safety (HIS) located 20 minutes from Barcelona. The center built on a 20,000 square-meter property includes a building, an asphalt track, an off road track, and also a skid line for brake testing. Training activities are available all year long (excluding summer and winter holidays) and every day from Monday through Sunday. During the weekdays, the training activities are focused on safety courses for professionals and corporations (i.e. police, delivery services, etc.), while on the weekend, they are open to general motorcycle users (including children), regardless of which brand of motorcycle they own.
To make it easily accessible for the participants, HIS provides all necessary riding equipment and also motorcycles (around 50 units from 50cc to 500cc). The training program portfolio includes 11 courses, which are normally 6 or 8-hour long. These courses designed by HIS are based on defensive training and risk prevention. Training quality is one of HIS key targets. Since 2018, one of the HIS safety training programs has been certified with the European Motorcycle Training Quality Label for safety training, while achieving an average of 9.6 out of 10 in participants’ satisfaction score. With regards to the participation rate, HIS has accumulated already more than 25,000 participants from 2009 to 2022, while the plan for 2023 is to reach 1,250.
HII Installs Solvent Recovery and Recycling System in Italy
Honda Italia Industriale, S.P.A. (HII) has been transporting large quantities of cleaning solvents (thinners) and used paints discharged from its painting facility area to an outside plant for disposal at high cost. The company's Energy ∧ Environment Department and Paint Department decided to launch a project to recover and recycle solvents using a distillation equipment in order to reduce waste and costs at the same time.
The distiller used in this project distills used degreasing and cleaning solvents that would otherwise be discarded through a simple process. Solvents condensed in this process are recovered and treated for reuse. Treated solvents do not change their original properties after the distillation process, so they could be reused over and over again.
The project, which began in April 2023 with the installation of solvent recovery equipment, is targeted for completion in February 2024, and once the completed solvent recovery and recycling system is fully operational, it is expected to reduce waste by 45 tons and recover 40 tons of solvents annually.

Employment of War Refugees from Ukraine and Disaster Relief for Emilia Romagna, Italy
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the French city of Orléans has been taking in refugees, and Honda France Manufacturing S.A.S. has been hiring skilled refugees from Ukraine as temporary associates. As many of the arrivals spoke neither English nor French, French-speaking Ukrainian associates took on the role of coordinating with the refugees. To date, a cumulative total of 20 refugees have been accepted.
During the 2023 major flooding in Emilia Romagna, Italy, Honda Motor Europe Logistics N.V. donated three water pumps and one small power carrier to the Civil Protection Department in Garzignano Terme, Veneto. This Department is one of the leading organizations in Italy dedicated to emergencies and is charged with assisting firefighters in the event of a major disaster in Italy. For this reason, Honda products that can be used in the event of floods and earthquakes as well as fires were chosen for the donation.
