The Honda Omni Traction Drive System is a mechanism that enables omni-directional mobility, Originated from Honda robotics research, Honda Omni Traction Drive is the driving system of UNI-CUB, Honda’s self-balancing personal mobility device which has been field-tested by over 80 thousand people (as of December 2018).
Honda aims to apply this technology to various fields, as both a mobility mechanism and beyond, and is seeking collaboration with partners to add value and expand its possibilities.
Honda’s first collaboration is with Japan-based Nidec-Shimpo Corporation, which licensed Honda Omni Traction Drive for its S-CART automated guided vehicle, slated to reach practical operation at the beginning of 2019.
