100 Meters
A sprint over 100 meters contested on a straight track to the finish. Recognized globally for determining the fastest person alive, it’s one of the most popular events.
What to watch
Success in the 100m hinges on maximum velocity and how quickly an athlete reaches it. Sprinters’ approaches broadly fall into two styles: those who break away early and hold on (front-runners) and those who build late and charge in the second half (closers).

4x100 Meters Relay
Four runners each cover 100 meters, passing a baton from the first through the fourth leg with the fastest total time winning. It’s one of the few team events in a sport largely built on individual competition.
What to watch
Each leg demands different strengths: the first leg needs an explosive start, the second excels in straight-line speed, the third masters curve running, and the anchor (fourth) must be clutch in a head-to-head finish. This means that lineup strategy matters. Beyond raw speed, baton-exchange technique is crucial as even tiny errors can cost time or lead to disqualification.

3000 Meters Steeplechase
A distance race over 3,000 meters with fixed barriers and water jumps. Athletes clear obstacles roughly every 80 meters, 28 barrier clearances plus seven water jumps (35 in total)
What to watch
In contrast to hurdles, the non-collapsible barriers increase the risk of falling. The cumulative impact of jumps and landings, traversing the water pit, and the added weight of wet footwear render this a highly demanding event. Though African competitors have set the global standard, Japanese athletes are again expected to contend for finals/top-eight placements following their showings in summer 2024.

5000 Meters
Athletes race each other across 5000 meters (12.5 laps), a discipline that requires a balance of endurance, sustained speed, and race craft. The leading pace is approximately 7.5 seconds per 50 meters.
Mori Nagiya of the Honda Running Team will compete!
What to watch
In this sport, strategy is crucial for pacing. Some athletes surge ahead early to control the race tempo, while others gradually pick up the pace before making their decisive move in the final stretch. When the bell signaling the last lap rings out across the track and the top runners launch their final sprint, the excitement reaches its peak.

Javelin Throw
Athletes carry the javelin in one hand, build speed on a runway of about 30 meters, and use that momentum to launch it as far as possible. Reading wind direction and timing is key. The longest legal throw within the time limit wins.
What to watch
Be sure to look for the dynamic approach run, the complex full-body mechanics just before release, and technical factors like the angle of attack and wind. It’s a high-skill event where Japan has genuine gold-medal hopes.
Plus, javelin retrieval is handled by a special radio-controlled car custom-built by Honda for WCH Tokyo 25!- Men’s Semi-Final Group-A

Pole Vault
Athletes use the rebound of the pole to clear a horizontal bar. The highest cleared height becomes the athlete’s mark. The athlete is finished after three consecutive failures.
What to watch
At the elite men’s level, vaulters clear over 6.00 meters, which is about the height of a two-story building. Watch for runway speed, the plant, the bend and recoil of the pole, the mid-air inversion, and bar clearance. The reigning men’s world-record holder, who won gold in Paris, might top his own record!

High Jump
After an approach run, athletes take off from one foot to clear a crossbar. After three consecutive failures, the athlete is done. The result is the last height successfully cleared.
What to watch
The thrill is twofold: the gravity-defying height and the tactics. Athletes can pass certain heights to conserve attempts or apply pressure. The women’s world-record holder, who broke a 37-year-old mark and won gold in Paris, may even try to better her own record!

Race Walk
Athletes compete to walk the fastest while maintaining the prescribed form. Receiving three warnings from judges triggers a mandatory wait in a designated penalty area, making this a battle against strict rules as well as the clock.
What to watch
In February this year, a Japanese athlete set a new world record, and a strong finish at the WCH Tokyo 25 is anticipated.
Though it’s a walking event, top racers move at speeds comparable to a typical running pace. In support of the broadcast, Honda’s two-seat electric personal commuter “CUV e:” will carry camera operators to capture the action up close.- Men’s 35 Kilometers Final

Koyama Naoki of the Honda Racing Team will compete!
To support race operations, Honda’s fuel cell electric vehicle, the "CR-V e:FCEV," will be used as the Chief Steward’s vehicle, while the light commercial EV, the "N-VAN e:," equipped with a Seiko timer, will serve as the timing vehicle. Also, using the portable external power supply "Power Exporter e: 6000 / 9000," power will be drawn from the N-VAN e: to supply the antenna mats laid out to measure lap times every 5 km.- Women’s Final
