Focus & Enhancement on Three Research Themes
Honda R&D Co., Ltd. always engages in the research going ahead of the changes of the times. We have been making efforts to lead the world, and we are committed to the realization of a “society with zero environmental impact” and a “society with zero traffic accident fatalities” by 2050. As a further dream, we are also enhancing our research in “new areas” to extend the mobility into three and four dimensions.
Now that the world is undergoing major changes, we are also conducting collaborative projects that will expand the possibilities in solving social issues and creating future value.
Environment
As a trend of the world, we have entered an era where the companies that cannot respond to the environment issues are excluded from the market. Honda announced its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. We have been making efforts for a “society with zero environmental impact” focusing on three pillars, i.e., “Clean Energy Shift” and “Resource Circulation” in addition to “Carbon Neutrality.”
We aim to provide value for our customers and achieve social sustainability at the same time by integrating the research results in the EV field, FC field, and circulative renewable energy.
Safety
Honda announced its goal of “zero traffic accident fatalities” involving Honda’s motorcycles and automobiles to be achieved globally by 2050.
Honda aims for zero traffic accident fatalities as follows:
- autonomous driving technology,
- preventing an accident by sharing risk information,
- driving assistance technology to remove the anxiety of a traffic accident, and
- link intelligence, software, etc., to ensure accident prevention and driving assistance further.
New Areas
We continue to take on challenges for the future based on the concept of enriching people’s lives with technology. “Create free time for people, expand the time and space where people can be active, and do not restrict the freedom of mobility.” If we can implement this with absolute safety and zero environmental impact, we believe that it will become a driving force to change the society, along with the expansion of people’s living areas and the fields of activities.
We have brought many technologies into in-house production. Those are combustion technology, safety argument and control technology for autonomous driving, and commercialization technologies including electrification, intelligence, weight reduction, and production. Those technologies can be realized by combining our core technologies with them. We are not just chasing our dreams, but pursuing our capabilities with feasible technologies and ideas.
