What is the Honda Avatar Robot?
“Honda Avatar Robot” integrates multi-fingered hands that provide human-level dexterity and strength with an AI-assisted teleoperation system, enabling users to intuitively operate their robotic avatar from anywhere remotely. This technology is designed to assist with complex tasks in challenging environments where direct human access is limited, such as healthcare, infrastructure maintenance, disaster relief, and space exploration.

AVATAR ROBOT
Handling tools made for people, just as people do
Standing 1,700 mm tall with 56 degrees of freedom in total, the robot is equipped with two multi-fingered hands, each with 16 degrees of freedom, aiming to handle tools and parts designed for people as they are. An AI support system assists the operator, making hands-on work possible on site even from a remote location.
MAINTENANCE
Maintenance and trouble-shooting services
When equipment breaks down, a specialist engineer can reach the site through the avatar robot, handling the actual machine from a remote location to carry out inspections and repairs on the spot. By freeing hands-on work from the constraints of location, we aim to demonstrate a high level of expertise even in a remote area without needing the time to get to the spot.
SPACE
Working on the Moon from Earth
Even in environments that are difficult for people to reach, such as lunar exploration, an avatar robot can be operated from the ground. We aim to deliver the dexterity of the human hand to distant places, down to delicate tasks such as picking up and observing rocks with a multi-fingered hand.
OPERATOR
Experts work from where they are
A doctor who receives a call for help can go straight to the scene from their desk at home. Wearing goggles and gloves, the robot’s eyes and hands become their own. Vibration feedback in the gloves conveys what the robot’s hands are sensing. The AI-supported remote operation system interprets the operator’s intentions and corrects their movements.
EMERGENCY
Medical emergency
An avatar robot rushes to the scene of a medical emergency and is operated by a doctor in a remote location, delivering expert knowledge and skills without waiting for anyone to travel. From medical care and lifesaving to equipment maintenance and disaster response, we will expand the situations in which human skills can help.
