Supplying Parts, Components & Complete Models to Countries Worldwide

The Sundiro Honda Motorcycle Co., Ltd. and Wuyang-Honda Motors Co., Ltd. are in charge of Super Cub Series production in China. This article examines some of the operations of the Sundiro Honda Motorcycle Company.

Sundiro Honda Motorcycle Co. is a joint venture between Sundiro Investment Ltd, a private capital company in China, and Honda. It manufactures and sells Honda motorcycles. The company was started in the year 2001, and production of Super Cub series models began in 2002.

Sundiro Honda has its headquarters in Shanghai, and its production facilities are located in Taicang (Jiangsu) and Tianjin. Situated approximately 50km northwest of Shanghai, the Taicang factory has around 2,000 employees and an annual production capacity of approximately 500,000 units (as of 2018). The factory is brand new, having been completed in 2018.

The Tianjin factory, located over 1,000km northwest of Shanghai, near Beijing, has around 900 employees and an annual production capacity of 350,000 units. The factory began operations in 2005.

These two factories manufacture Super Cubs, scooters, electric motorcycles, and sports models, etc.

The Taicang factory actively makes use of the latest production technologies (shown in the photo is the assembly of an engine unrelated to the Super Cub series).

Sundiro Honda’s connection with users of the Super Cub around the world is relatively unknown. The factories produced approximately 150,000 Super Cubs in 2018 (the total of both finished models and knock-down parts), of which 70% were either finished models or exported abroad as components for local assembly of finished models.

The factory exports to a total of 25 countries throughout the world, including the neighboring countries of Japan and Korea, as well as Australia and New Zealand in Oceania, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and Madagascar in Africa, Mexico in Central America, and Peru, Argentina and other countries in South America.

In the case of Japan, for example, many of the components of the current Super Cub series (including the Cross Cubs) are imported from Sundiro for assembly at Honda’s Kumamoto factory. The previous Super Cub series, which was sold up through fiscal 2017, featured several models which were wholly manufactured by Sundiro Honda and exported for sale in Japan.

Clearly Sundiro Honda has a major role to play as the World’s Super Cub Factory. The Super Cub series of compact motorcycles is loved by users in 160 countries and regions to date. It is also supported by a borderless network of complete models and parts supplies. Sundiro Honda in China is engaged in production as an essential element of this network.
