Inheriting the thrilling performance of Project Big-1

Development of the CB1300 Super Four began by reinterpreting the essence of the 1992 CB1000 SUPER FOUR’s Project Big-1 concept.

Aiming to achieve the ultimate naked road sports bike, the development goal was set as “the thrilling Big-1.” The five elements of thrilling performance which served as the development goal for the 1998 CB1300 SUPER FOUR were adopted as guiding principles.

  • Riding thrills:
    1. 1. The thrill of a powerful ride
    2. 2. The thrill of controlling and mastery
    3. 3. The thrill of confidence
  • Ownership thrills:
    1. 4. The thrill when sitting on the bike
    2. 5. The thrill of owning the bike

[Design]
While inheriting the Project Big-1 tradition, The CB1300 Big Four, featured a more refined and sophisticated design.

The fuel tank, a symbol of sexy and wild styling, was designed to enlarge its volume and contours. The engine’s exterior eliminated fins to highlight the functional beauty of the water-cooled engine, and the exhaust pipes featured a sleek 4-2-1 system with a single muffler, creating a light and sporty look.

[Power Unit]
While retaining the water-cooled, four-stroke, DOHC, four-valve inline four-cylinder 1300cc configuration, the new engine was redesigned with a compact, lightweight construct, and low-friction technology. As a result, the engine achieved a significant weight reduction of 8kg compared to the previous model.

In addition, throttle response was improved and combustion efficiency optimized by switching from a carburetor to electronically controlled fuel injection system (PGM-FI).

The exhaust system featured a 4-2-1 configuration, and connecting to a single muffler, delivering strong torque characteristics in the mid-to-low rev range.

[Chassis]
The frame was designed for optimal rigidity while thoroughly reducing weight, resulting in a significant seven kilogram reduction compared to the previous model. The wheelbase was shortened by 30mm, contributing to improved handling performance and maneuverability. Additionally, the front and rear suspension systems were completely redesigned to provide a smoother ride.
